Spinnaker Island

Spinnaker Island

Some fun facts about Spinnaker Island — there’s a lot of history here! Formerly known as Hog Island, it hosted Fort Duvall from 1920–1948 to protect Boston Harbor, then served into the early 1970s as a radar and fire‑control site for a nearby Nike missile installation. In the mid‑70s and 80s it was used by the Hull public schools as a middle‑school annex. In 1987 the island was redeveloped into a privately owned townhouse and condominium community of 94 homes. The original marina was destroyed in a storm and never rebuilt. Today Spinnaker is a Hull neighborhood connected by a causeway, not part of the Boston Harbor Islands recreation area, with an active community, pool, social club, fitness center, and private beach.
