Celebrate the life and legacy of legendary New England historian and author Edward Rowe Snow at the Windmill Point Boathouse! Join us on September 19, 2026 at our Windmill Point Boathouse, 185 Main S., in Hull for a special birthday tribute featuring a presentation by his daughter, Dolly Snow Bicknell, who will share personal stories, rare photographs, and historic videos from a lifetime spent exploring Boston Harbor with her father.
Known as the "Flying Santa" and author of more than 40 books on New England's maritime history, lighthouses, islands, and shipwrecks, Edward Rowe Snow inspired generations to appreciate the rich heritage of our coastal communities.
Collectors and fans will also have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Edward Rowe Snow's books, including several featuring his original sketches.
Whether you're a longtime admirer or discovering his work for the first time, this promises to be a memorable celebration of one of New England's greatest storytellers.

We invite history lovers to an engaging afternoon with this award-winning author as he discusses his newest historical novel, The Loyalist, a compelling look at the American Revolution through the eyes of those who remained loyal to the British Crown during the Siege of Boston in 1775.
More than a traditional talk, guests will enjoy an interactive history trivia quiz, with the chance to win a complimentary signed book, followed by a lively discussion and book signing. Light refreshments will be served.

As spring rolls out, Friday Painters in Hull, a joint effort with the Hull Lifesaving Museum and Hull Artists, continues our artistic adventures. We post a variety of painting locations that encourage artists to enjoy Hull's natural beauty and diverse landscapes. Mixed in the locations are seaside, historic locations, vistas and private gardens. It is organized so that we can take advantage of the morning light and finish in time not to get the afternoon burn. Open and free to all, any level or ability. There are no instructions given, just bring your supplies and enjoy. A chair, hat and water bottle are recommended.

HLM’s Summer Adventure Program brings seven weeks of hands-on discovery and outdoor fun for children ages 5–11. Programs run Tuesday–Thursday, with two options to fit your schedule: a morning session from 9:00 AM–12:30 PM or an extended day from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM.
Each week features a new theme, blending history, science, arts, and exploration through engaging, interactive activities. Join us for one week or all seven—adventure awaits!

Summer Maritime Explorers Program
~Make a Summer Full of Memories~
for Youth Ages 12-16

Windmill Point Boathouse, 185 Main St., Hull
Running over seven weeks, each session highlights a different focus area, with all activities based out of the HLM Windmill Point Boathouse. Participants may sign up for any individual week or join for all seven weeks. Participants will get out on the water and into the action, working with our fleet of open-water rowing vessels and exploring the harbor and nearby islands.
Throughout the program, students will develop skills in water safety, rowing and coxing, small boat operation, navigation and harbor piloting, marine science, and basic boat maintenance and construction. Along the way, they’ll build confidence, teamwork, and a deeper connection to the harbor’s past, present, and future.

The best mental health activity in Greater Boston might be waiting for you at Windmill Point in Hull. Enjoy summer sunsets from the water, fresh coastal air, and the camaraderie of our Adult Rowing program. Open year-round, our rowing club welcomes beginners and experienced rowers alike—summer is the perfect time to join!
New to rowing? Bring footwear that can get wet, a willingness to learn, and a good sense of humor as you discover the joy of “pulling together.” We row in Whitehall Fours and Pilot Gigs, choosing a boat each outing to match the crew. No experience necessary—just come ready to try something new.
Warning: open-water rowing can be habit-forming.

The Head of the Weir Race is a vibrant celebration of the estuary's fall beauty and showcases open-water rowers from across New England and New York. This 5.5-mile race starts at the headwaters of the Weir River, winds past Bumpkin Island, and finishes at the museum's Windmill Point Boathouse at Hull Gut, offering an exciting event for both participants and spectators. Rowers and paddlers are encouraged to sign up, while spectators can enjoy prime viewing spots at George Washington Blvd. Bridge, Worlds End Park, and the HLM Boathouse finish line, where food and gifts will be available, with a suggested $5 donation for non-racers. Mark your calendar for this thrilling annual event!
