Sleepyhead

PoemBy Catherine Sykes

Sleepyhead

My Sleep Suitor

Elusive, unpredictable, often unsatisfying, still I chase him.
I’ve chased him all my life.

He’s often late and sometimes I fear he won’t come at all.

Dream Maker, I could use a sweet dream tonight.
It’s been a bit of a day.

When he finally gets to me, I forgive him and welcome him so warmly.

He senses I’ve been waiting a while and he is kind.
He blows away the smoke and ashes of the day.

Before I can even thank him
I’m in his arms.
And it’s a good night
