A Fresh Coat of Paint for a Piece of Hull's Maritime History | | |
One of Hull’s most recognizable landmarks is looking better than ever. The Hull Lifesaving Museum’s historic U.S. Lifesaving Station recently received a fresh coat of paint as part of a community effort to preserve this important piece of Hull’s maritime history. The project was made possible through the generosity and expertise of local partners, including Kaplan Painting, Seaboyer Construction, Hingham Lumber, and funding support from the Hull Community Preservation Committee (CPC).
“Projects like this are about much more than maintaining a building,” said Mike McGurl, Executive Director. “They allow us to care for the physical places that tell Hull’s story and ensure that future generations can experience and appreciate this important part of our maritime heritage.” The Museum is grateful to everyone who helped restore the station and preserve this important part of Hull’s lifesaving legacy. Visitors are invited to see the newly painted station and discover the stories of the lifesavers who made Hull a vital part of our nation’s maritime history.

This fall, the Lifesaving Sangha will explore Matt Haig’s bestselling novel The Midnight Library, a moving and hopeful story about regret, possibility, happiness, and what makes a life worth living. Through the mysterious library at the heart of the novel—where each book offers a different version of one’s life—we’ll consider questions that connect naturally with mindfulness and Buddhist teachings, including impermanence, attachment, compassion, gratitude, acceptance, and learning to fully inhabit the life we have rather than wishing for another.
Led by Sean Baggett, the workshop is relaxed, conversational, and welcoming to all experience levels. No prior knowledge of Buddhism or mindfulness is needed; the book simply provides a starting point for exploring our own experiences, modern life, mindfulness, and Buddhist philosophy. Sean has taught mindfulness, Buddhism, and Eastern philosophy at the Hull Lifesaving Museum and other local organizations for many years, with a practical and accessible approach.
The class runs from 7:00–8:00 p.m., followed by a 30-minute insight meditation session concluding at 8:30 p.m. All are welcome. To learn more, please email or call 781-925-5433.

Celebrate the life and legacy of legendary New England historian and author Edward Rowe Snow at the Windmill Point Boathouse! Join us on September 19, 2026 at our Windmill Point Boathouse, 185 Main S., in Hull for a special birthday tribute featuring a presentation by his daughter, Dolly Snow Bicknell, who will share personal stories, rare photographs, and historic videos from a lifetime spent exploring Boston Harbor with her father.
Known as the "Flying Santa" and author of more than 40 books on New England's maritime history, lighthouses, islands, and shipwrecks, Edward Rowe Snow inspired generations to appreciate the rich heritage of our coastal communities.
Collectors and fans will also have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Edward Rowe Snow's books, including several featuring his original sketches.
Whether you're a longtime admirer or discovering his work for the first time, this promises to be a memorable celebration of one of New England's greatest storytellers.

Grab your leash and join us for the inaugural Tails of Courage Dog Walk, held in loving memory of Roger, the Hull Lifesaving Museum’s beloved mascot.
The walk will begin at the Hull Lifesaving Museum, continue to Village Playground for a water station, and then head to the U.S. Coast Guard Station for another water break. Walkers and their canine companions will finish at the Hull Lifesaving Museum’s Windmill Point Boathouse, where they can enjoy local vendors, activities, refreshments, and special pup cups for our four-legged participants.
Inspired by Roger and the courageous dogs of the U.S. Life-Saving Service and Coast Guard, this family-friendly event celebrates the loyalty, bravery, and unconditional love that dogs bring to our lives.
Proceeds will support the Hull Lifesaving Museum and its mission: “Saving Lives Then ~ Changing Lives Now.”

Join us at the Hull Lifesaving Museum for a family-friendly "Hull-O-Ween" adventure filled with spooky and fun surprises! Start at the museum entrance and explore a trail dotted with pumpkins hidden in nooks and crannies, passing over 100 carved jack-o'-lanterns created by fellow Hullonians, Inside, marvel at the creations of local artist Jeff Menice, while outside you’ll discover pumpkins carved by the South Shore Neptune Dive Club. From there, step onto our pumpkin-lit deck, and if you dare, venture down the haunted wilderness trail before returning to the main lawn for more festivities.
Adults can relax with a seasonal brew in our beer tent while the little ones revel in the Halloween activities. Costumes are encouraged—add to the festive atmosphere and join in the fun!

The Head of the Weir Race is a vibrant celebration of the estuary's fall beauty and showcases open-water rowers from across New England and New York. This 5.5-mile race starts at the headwaters of the Weir River, winds past Bumpkin Island, and finishes at the museum's Windmill Point Boathouse at Hull Gut, offering an exciting event for both participants and spectators. Rowers and paddlers are encouraged to sign up, while spectators can enjoy prime viewing spots at George Washington Blvd. Bridge, Worlds End Park, and the HLM Boathouse finish line, where food and gifts will be available, with a suggested $5 donation for non-racers. Mark your calendar for this thrilling annual event!

New to rowing? Bring footwear that can get wet, a willingness to learn, and a good sense of humor as you discover the joy of “pulling together.” We row in Whitehall Fours and Pilot Gigs, choosing a boat each outing to match the crew. No experience necessary—just come ready to try something new.

Meet Sally Snowman: Tours with Boston Light's Last Keeper
The Hull Lifesaving Museum is pleased to welcome a very special guest. Sally Snowman, the last official keeper of Boston Light, will continue to visit the Museum every other Tuesday to lead visitors on guided tours that blend the Museum's rich lifesaving history with fascinating stories from America's oldest lighthouse.
Visitors will enjoy the Museum's exhibits through Sally's unique perspective, gaining a deeper appreciation for the intertwined histories of Boston Light and the U.S. Life-Saving Service.
Whether you're a lighthouse enthusiast, a maritime history buff, or simply looking for a memorable experience, don't miss this special opportunity to tour the Hull Lifesaving Museum with one of New England's most beloved maritime historians.

Building Connections by the Sea
A visit to the Hull Lifesaving Museum is about more than exploring maritime history—it is about discovering new experiences, building confidence, and feeling welcomed.
Through our valued partnership with Goodwill Boston, participants regularly visit the museum for field trips, guided tours, and special events. Goodwill Boston provides community-based day programs for adults with developmental disabilities.
During their visits to the museum, Goodwill participants explore the historic Point Allerton U.S. Life-Saving Station, learn about legendary lifesaver Joshua James, and discover the courage and teamwork that have shaped Hull’s maritime history. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, share their observations, and engage with the exhibits in ways that are meaningful to them.
Whether they are hearing a dramatic rescue story, attending a community event, creating art work, or simply enjoying the museum and its beautiful coastal surroundings, they bring curiosity, enthusiasm, and joy to every visit.
These experiences create something even more important: a sense of connection and belonging. The friendships formed and memories shared remind us that museums are not simply places where history is preserved—they are places where people come together, learn from one another, and feel part of a community.
